the kids aren’t alright
In the past couple of years Derby City Council have been allocated over £1 million in government funding to implement walking & cycling provision. Sadly in 2022, it was revealed that they failed to even apply for further funding. Our neighbours in Nottingham and Leicester were awarded £2.2 million pounds each.
Their use of the funding has been lacking in ambition and vision, especially to enable and encourage future generations to cycle when we’re facing a climate emergency.
So we took to the streets together for our Kidical Mass rides to celebrate cycling and to highlight the numbers of people and children who want using their bikes on our roads to be easier and safer.
We called on Derby City Council to properly and thoughtfully consider and design infrastructure for the safety of all road users by creating a connected network of innovative, accessible and segregated routes, instead of prioritising and enabling motor traffic.
After our three successful rides as part of the Kidical Mass global action movement, we’re super excited to be supporting the newly formed Kidical Mass Derby as they lead the rides going forward.

This was our third and biggest ride!
Nearly 60 people of all ages & abilities joined us from as far as the Peak District to cycle our new route through Derby city centre. We had a great time ringing our bells, making new friends and calling on our decision makers to create safer streets for everyone.
