we helped you to cycle

We know that cycling can be tricky. From pesky punctures to risky roads, it can feel a bit overwhelming but it can also be liberating, enabling and so much fun.

Designed and led by women, we offered accessible, welcoming and friendly initiatives that support, encourage and empower you to cycle by using a fix-learn-ride model.

By focusing on these three elements we covered cycle maintenance, and how to feel confident cycling on the road. So whether it’s the school run or the supermarket, you were ready to ride.

fix

Cycle maintenance is often identified as one of the main barriers to more women and non-binary people cycling.

We broke down these barriers in an accessible and fun way through our basic cycle maintenance workshops. All tools and equipment were provided, including a kit to take home.

These workshops were free for the local community thanks to Big Bike Revival funding from Cycling UK.

learn

Our friendly cycling skills sessions helped to build up your confidence, knowledge and experience of riding on the road.

As a small group we learned how to position yourself on the road, how to navigate junctions and how to ride assertively.

These sessions were free for the local community thanks to Big Bike Revival funding from Cycling UK.

ride

We understand that one of the main barriers to cycling is having access to a safe, suitable and roadworthy cycle so we worked on creating a community cycle library.

cycle buddies

Our free and fun Cycle Buddies scheme matched women who were new or returning to cycling with more confident female riders to build up knowledge and experience of riding on the roads in Derby, while making a new friend on the way too.
