we campaigned to bring about much needed change not only for us, but also for those who follow
Girls, women and non-binary people are underrepresented at all levels of cycling in Derby. We need safe and accessible infrastructure and we need diverse and inclusive spaces so our voices can be heard.
our campaigns
make space for us
In 2020 Derby City Council were allocated £1 million of Emergency Active Travel funding from the government to implement walking & cycling provision. In 2022, it was revealed that they failed to even apply for the third allocation of this funding.
Their use of the funding has been very red, white and questionable, especially to enable and encourage future generations to cycle when we’re facing a climate emergency.
So we took to the streets together for Kidical Mass rides to celebrate cycling and to highlight the numbers of people and children who want to make cycling on the streets easier and safer.
cats not cars
Whether you’re a cat owner or avid watcher of cat escapades online, our feline friends are in our homes, on our phones and on our roads.
But we are killing them. Research shows that road traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of cat death, so much so that many people don’t even let their cats outside for fear of their beloved pet being squished.
From giant SUVs to precious parking, our streets and lives are dominated by cars. It’s not just cats that are victims, we’re also killing ourselves through increased air pollution.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. In the summer of 2022 we called on you and our politicians, transport planners and humans in charge to create a city that prioritises cats*, not cars.
*or children, women, disabled people, any other vulnerable and underrepresented group in society. Unfortunately the council don’t seem to care about us though so we gave cativism a go.
choose to challenge
International Women’s Day provides an important moment to showcase commitment to gender equality. For 2021 the theme was ‘choose to challenge’ to call out gender bias and inequality.
On 8th March 2021, we raised awareness of sexism in cycling and called on Derby’s cycling organisations, groups and individuals to pledge their commitment to call out gender bias and inequality because cycling will only change if we all commit to choosing to challenge.

see us
Our first campaign marked the first anniversary of the tragic death of 25 year old Josephine Gilbert on 21st January 2021.
The number of cyclists who have been killed or seriously injured in Derby and Derbyshire has steadily increased since 2015. In 2019, it was 119% above the target.
We wanted to raise awareness of the need to see, give space to and protect girls, women and non-binary people who cycle.
